DIGI SOCIETY

DIGITAL EXPERIENCE

The commercial services landscape in UK heritage and cultural locations has been significantly reshaped by the process of digitalization: plenty of implementations have been made during the pandemic, considering the closure of museums and heritage sites.

The incorporation of digital technologies, such as virtual tours, interactive displays, and online platforms, has not only broadened access to these sites but has also created new revenue streams through virtual ticketing, merchandise sales, and digital memberships, making cultural experiences accessible to a global audience. In this sense, taking into account the challenges exposed by the pandemic, on the other hand it’s been an ideal territory to experiment and test new tools and new ways how to reach and interact with the auidence.

This shift has revolutionized marketing and commercial strategies by enabling new markets and new strategies as well . However, it has introduced challenges, including the necessity for robust cybersecurity measures and the delicate balance between embracing technological advancements and preserving the authenticity of physical spaces. In summary, the impact of digitalization on commercial services in UK heritage and cultural locations is characterized by a redefined landscape with both opportunities and complexities.

RISK OF OPEN DIGITAL SOCIETY

To be digitalized on a work level, it definitely impacted with both contingencies and intricacies when it comes to commercial services in historical and cultural locations in the UK.

Focusing on the introduction of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), businesses within these sectors underwent substantial transformations to align with the rigorous data protection standards mandated by GDPR. Improving in data management practices, boosting cybersecurity measures, and staff education initiatives became imperative to ensure consent.

The regulations introduced challenges in acquiring and utilizing visitor data for marketing, drawing a shift toward more transparent and consensual data collection practices. Moreover, GDPR incited the importance of accountability and the necessity for thorough documentation of data processing activities, fostering a more careful and meticulous approach to handling personal information in the context of heritage and cultural services in the UK.

Referring to the videos linked for this assignment, Kenneth Cukier during a Ted Talk in the early 2000’s affirms that “big data is transforming already how we live, how we work and how we think”, considering that. It is clear and undeniable that digitalizazion as a multi layered concept is constantly changing, reshaping, updating to needs required by the users, and adapted to our daily work lives.

Following this, another speaker -Marco Annunziata – during a Ted Talk in the early 2000’s claims that “we are living in the age of the industrial internet: it brings together intelligent machines, advanced analytics and the creativity of people at work. It’s a marriage of minds and machines. And our lives will never be the same.” He delivers a strong but real message, yet again is already happening, and if we approach this relationship with a trained perspective, I can see already more benefits than challenges.

Additionally, when it comes to focus on a personal level, digitalizazion bring both pros and cons. Digitalization has profoundly impacted as individuals by providing unprecedented convenience, connectivity, and information access. The positives include improved and faster communication, a free and wide 24/7 access to knowledge through online resources and tools. However, concerns arise regarding privacy, data security, and the risk of identity theft.

Likewise, issues such as digital addiction (such as social media addicted), information overload (and in many cases false news and so on), and the digital divide pose challenges to mental well-being and societal equality, especially within the younger generation that they born within these technologies and tools. Striking a balance between the advantages and disadvantages of digitalization is crucial for individuals to navigate the digital landscape effectively, and again it’s fundamental to be educated / trained to be fully aware on how to navigate on these digital channels.

CHAT GPT

When talking about ChatGPT, it’s evident that are some frictions about the accountability of informations provided by the system itlself. Moreover, Chat GPT itself displays on their Chat OpenAi that “ChatGPT can make mistakes. Consider checking important information.”

From my work and life background, I can affirm positively that OpenAi such as Chat GPT is a brilliant tool, that needs constant updates in terms of regulations, disclosure of informations and the authenticity of these informations provided for the users.

When typing few questions related to digitalizazion on my work and life persective, the Chat OpenAi provides different answers depending how you formulate the queries, or that the answer won’t be fully completed or descriptived as you expected. For example, when I asked to provide some verified references regarding emotional intelligence regarding my work background, I was able to open only few verified links / articles etc while the rest was non existent on not available online.

It’s apparent that Chat GPT has a long way ahead before to be defined as a safe and trustworthy resource information tool, but again with the constant gathering, processing, analyzing the right data with the right analytics / tools, it’s creating a creative and dynamic path were the accessibility of data in informations will become more and more present in our daily lives as users and individuals.

SELF EVALUATION

After watching some videos related to this assignment, I found a phrase that it’s worth mentioning: “Big data is better data”. I do believe that have more, but yet certified and trusted data and informations, can positively implement our lives on many different levels: personal, work, healthcare, transport and so on.

On one hand, does look scary and uncertain to be in the hands of the artificial intelligence, but on the other hand it does open plenty of opportunities for progress in many different ways. The correct training and education, to be aware of the risks and challenges posed by artificial intelligence and digitalizazion, a constant updating and trialing of new tools and services to supply the need of the audience and more, are just few example what the future will look like and how we can adapt and conform to it as well.

I found the videos to be quite interesting, and I believe I gained a good amount of knowledge from watching them. It struck me how much progress humanity has made, especially in the field of technology. This realization has given me hope that our software will continue to advance, making people’s lives better and simplifying things. I really enjoyed this section, not just for the informative content but also for the positive outlook it instilled in me about the potential of software to positively shape our future.
